Child in Need of Protection or Services (CHIPS)

CHIPS petitions are brought in an effort to obtain services and assistance for families and children where other means have been ineffective or the state/local county refuses to provide services. CHIPS proceedings may be commenced by county social service departments or by an individual initiating a private CHIPS petition on behalf of parents and children.

Berg, Debele, DeSmidt & Rabuse, P.A., is one of the few private law firms in Minnesota actively involved in representing people in CHIPS proceedings within the Minnesota juvenile courts and has been successful in forcing counties to respond to their statutory obligations to assist families in times of crisis.
